You know it’s a good day out when you ask your husband to pick his favourite aspect of the day and he declares it an impossible task. Each activity competes for the top spot, and it feels like a day that needs to be shared. Such was our day out at Grouse Mountain.
Since our time in Vancouver was running out quickly, our last two weeks were jam-packed with places to visit and things to do. Grouse Mountain was a must. My Handsome Man wanted to do the Grouse Grind but the weather was incredibly hot. Consequently, we decided to catch the Gondola up and had an amazing day exploring. Our budget didn’t stretch to a helicopter ride, paragliding, or any of the other more expensive activities. I am sure that, if it had, it would have made choosing a favourite even more impossible.
Eat a Beavertail.
Not a beaver’s tail.
A beavertail – it is a traditional Canadian treat. It’s a cross between a doughnut and a pancake. And it is delicious. Don’t judge us, but we totally ate 2 each!
Eye of the Wind
We hiked from the gondola up to the peak of Grouse Mountain. At the peak, there is a wind turbine with a viewing deck. We paid the extra dollars to catch the elevator to the top and take in the amazing view.
There was a section of glass flooring which you could walk over if you’re not afraid of heights. It is incredibly safe and we even jumped on it.
The Lumberjack Show
Vancouverites boast of the world famous Lumberjack Show and I fully understand why. The lumberjack skills the actors demonstrated were amazing, the script was funny and we were blown away by some of the stunts. It really is worth seeing.
We caught the chairlift down from the peak. It was an amazing experience to slowly descend, take in all the views around us, and enjoy the achievement of having climbed to the top of the mountain.
Going back to Grouse Mountain
I would love to go back to Vancouver in the Winter and experience ‘The Peak of Christmas’, in particular, the ‘Light Walk’. Grouse Mountain has sleigh rides and skiing activities in winter.
There’s just something about Christmas lights that appeals to me.
