One of these days I will do a ‘Day in the Life’ on a “normal” day – a day that isn’t my birthday. Documenting the day I turn a year older seems to have become a little tradition here on the blog.
This year My Handsome Man had a morning class which means his alarm wakes him at 6am. He sneaks out the bedroom and gets ready in the living room to allow me to lie in. I panic if I wake and he’s not there though, so before he leaves, he comes in and kisses me goodbye, telling me to sleep longer.
It’s a beautiful day – my birthday always is (we won’t talk about the 10 minute shower last year that ended the ‘it’s never rained on my birthday’ thing). I pack together a mini lunch for My Handsome Man and have something to eat myself.
I catch the skytrain downtown to meet My Handsome Man after his class. He’s booked us tickets to see ‘Captain America: Civil War’ at the cinema as a birthday treat. We have both read the graphic novel and looked forward to the movie with great anticipation.
We have a late lunch/early dinner and both take a day off from our dietary restrictions. It’s not wise to do so and we both notice the difference, but sometimes you just really miss the taste of a burger and decide that it’s worth the discomfort.
The weather is glorious and we want to spend more time outside so we travel to our local park and walk around the lake. As we’re walking round My Handsome Man realises I haven’t opened my presents yet.
Home time and present time. The best place for natural light in our flat is our bedroom, so we spend quite a bit of time in there and decide to open the presents on the bed. I have Lush goodies, books and a new camera bag. I feel utterly spoilt.
It took me longer than I expected to write my blog post and I get My Handsome Man to edit it for me. It’s getting late and we’re both starting to get tired so we treat ourselves to a movie in bed. We totally had to turn it off half way through and go to sleep so we will probably finish it tonight. That was my day yesterday. I also spent a few hours in the afternoon reading my new books but forgot to take photographs. It was a perfect day for me – spending time with My Handsome Man, discussing ‘Captain America: Civil War’, taking photographs and enjoying Vancouver on our year abroad.
